5 Reasons Why You Should Consider Dental Veneers

Are you looking to change the overall appearance of your smile without major surgery or procedures? Dental veneers may be right for you. Our Ontario dentists share five reasons why you should consider dental veneers for the restoration of your smile.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are incredibly thin pieces of tooth-coloured porcelain that are added to the fronts of your teeth. These are bonded to your teeth with the intention of changing the appearance of your smile.

The first thing that your dentists will do is take an impression of your teeth in order to create your custom veneers. These custom veneers will be safely bonded to the fronts of your existing teeth. Dental veneers imitate your tooth enamel’s natural translucency, so they look and feel like natural teeth.

What are some reasons to get dental veneers?

1. Dental veneers not only restore your smile but can also protect it.

Dental veneers can help restore the appearance and function of your smile. They can also protect the surface of your teeth from discolouration or damage, and mask stains that cannot be removed with teeth whitening.

2. Veneers are able to potentially resolve a variety of dental concerns.

Dental veneers can be used to change the look of your smile by helping to improve the colour and shape of your existing teeth. They are also beneficial in restoring your teeth from issues such as chipping, alignment and tooth erision.

3. With proper care dental veneers are a long-term solution.

While composite resin is another useful tooth restoration option, porcelain veneers typically last longer. On average, they last about 15 years. However, depending on a few key factors such as how well they are cared for, they can last 20 years or more.

To ensure your veneers last as long as possible, you’ll need to maintain a rigorous oral hygiene routine at home, brushing at least twice a day for two minutes each time and flossing once daily.

4. Dental veneers offer a less intrusive option for altering your smile.

Dental veneers are a less invasive alternative to dental crowns. They also don’t require as much reshaping of your teeth.

5. You are able to have dental veneers on multiple teeth.

You can choose to have veneers on only one tooth, or many at a time. If you have a tooth that has become discoloured or misshapen due to injury, you may only require one veneer. Some patients who want to change the way all of their teeth look may choose to have more done.

Bonus: The financial benefit of dental veneers.

Dental veneers are commonly chosen as a dental restoration option due to being relatively cost-effective. Depending on your dental issue and which type of veneers you choose, the cost of veneers may make more economical sense for you long-term than other dental restoration options.

Dental veneers are a great option in many cases but it is important to discuss this and other possible treatments with your dentist to find out what will work best for you. The only way to know if dental veneers will work for you is to see your dentist for a consultation.
